The bastide of Hastingues was founded in 1289 by Sir John Hastings on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley of the Gaves Réunis. A 14th century fortified gate and typical, registered National Heritage houses give the village its unique charm.

The former Abbey of Arthous (founded in 1167) is located in Hastingues. Registered as a French National Heritage historical monument in 1955, it was given to the Conseil Départemental des Landes (Landes Departmental Council) in 1964. It has since been renovated and has become the Centre Départemental du Patrimoine (Departmental Heritage Centre). It has regained its former splendour and hosts events and exhibits open to the public. The interactive museum tells the age-old history of our region.

Lastly, a permanent exhibit at the A64 motorway rest area retraces the pilgrimage routes leading to Santiago de Compostela and can be reached from the village.
