The village of Habas, located in Chalosse above the Gave de Pau river, is a charming flower-filled village where the rich soil and beautiful scenery make it a great place to live.  It’s also remained dynamic thanks to its network of community associations, but also by keeping around twenty shops and businesses in the centre of town.

You can reach Habas via the Boulevard des Pyrénées, shaded by plane trees, stop in the centre to visit the Church of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul, then walk along the village’s lively main street. The town centre is truly vibrant, constantly in motion, and this is where the traditional market takes place every Friday morning in the church square.

Sightseeing

  • About 300 metres from the town centre, you’ll find the Rachède fountain dating back to 1819, and the adjacent wash house that was built at almost the same time. The Rachède quarter was very popular at that time because the quality of the fountain’s water was known to improve the health and longevity of the local residents.
  • Around the town centre, you’ll see magnificent homes and castles dating back to the 19th century, such as the Château de Lagelouze, Le Vignau, etc.
  • Lastly, to discover the Habas countryside, there are two walking trails, each approximately 11 kms (6.8 miles), with beautiful observation points overlooking the Gave valley.
